 NEWS EXTRA’ - UPDATE

Drive for Zoe’

Monday 23rd June

As of today (17/6), the plan is that Alan Biggar (who has already set off from Scotland ), will arrive in Cheltenham at about 5pm on Monday 23rd June, after meeting the Mayor etc, at 5.30 he will set off to drive to Prescott . It is hoped that we (+ others) can form a convoy. This is where YOU all come in; let us see if we can muster a really good group of cars to make an impressive Morgan convoy (You do not have to be in a Morgan!). I already have some names that are going to attend but, I would dearly like some more. At Prescott (The Hill is not available) there is going to be a Champagne & Light Buffet Reception (At a nominal cost of £10), members of the Morgan family will be there as there is some connection. This ‘Drive for Zoe’ is visiting all the offices of ‘Brewin Dolphin’ in UK and is naturally taking quite a time, Alan I believe has already raised £100,000 so far for ‘Teenage Cancer’. So come on you Spotmog members, give it some thought and let’s be there at the forefront.

Previous Information

This worthwhile fundraising event has been well advertised in the June Miscellany (pages 18 & 19). I am sure that anyone who has been affected by Cancer and the effect it has on everyone around, will hopefully be able to help support this fantastic effort being undertaken by Alan Bigger.

Alan will be driving around UK with the idea of raising funds for the ‘Drive for Zoe’ Teenage Cancer Trust. Alan has spoken to me and reiterated that as he will be taking some time out at ‘ Prescott ’, he would be interested in meeting as many ‘Spotmog’ members and their cars as possible.  Also, if anyone is interested in joining him on any of the stages that he is driving, he would be more than pleased to have you along. Alan is due to arrive at Prescott late afternoon (23rd) where hopefully members of the ‘Morgan’ family will be there to meet him, what would be better if ‘Spotmog’ could perhaps form a ceremonial ‘Guard of Honour’ as he arrives? (It now looks like that we can join in the convoy from Cheltenham ?).

So, come along all of you Spotmog members, a nice quiet Monday afternoon (nothing on TV!), let us once again show the Morgan World that we (Spotmog) can turn out for the occasion and put ‘Our best foot Forward’.

Please let ‘DG’ (Spotmog Secretary) know that you can make the effort only for a couple of hours!), I would like to know well in advance rather than an hour before so that I can make arrangements with the organisers. I will send further details out if and when I know more.

 ‘NEWS EXTRA’

Evening Noggin – Wednesday 25th June

Here we go again, this time it is the June Noggin, and it is on Wednesday 25th June at ‘The Greyhound’, Siddington. I hope that there isn’t anyone out there who has forgotten where it is, if you have, ring for directions! Just turn up any time from about 6.30 - 6.45 and there is bound to be someone there, also remember that the you can really enjoy the evening, have something tasty cooked FOR YOU, there is no need to do any washing up after either, now there’s a real treat for all the men out there!! PLEASE make an effort to attend; there are no black marks for coming in a tin top or having your hood up, it really does not matter, what we would like to see, is YOU. If you want to come earlier then do, you can always order your meal nice and early.

Now on with the rest of the News etc.

1.             May Noggin & Visit by the Chairman & his Wife - Many thanks to all those Members who turned up at the May Noggin for the visit of the Chairman and his wife, Peter & Ann Johnson, it really was an excellent turn out, they were very impressed and thoroughly enjoyed themselves, I had a really nice card thanking everyone for making them so welcome, so well done everyone. (Let’s see a turnout like that every month!).

2.             Visit to Buscot Park – Sunday 29th June – This the last call for anyone wishing to take part in the visit to Buscot Park who has not already informed Stuart Priest that you wish to be counted in. This visit is a combined visit with Oxmog and should be good fun, it will be nice to meet other members from another Centre and see some different cars. Please contact Stuart ASAP and let him know that you are coming, his Tel No. 01367 – 240118.

3.             Wroughton Classic Show 3rd August - Spotmog is having a stand at this show. We want to have the best possible Centre (or any other Morgan) representation as possible. An invitation has gone to ‘Oxmog’ and they have accepted. It is an excellent show, and very large too, it is not just cars, there will be plenty to see, and it is well worth attending. I need to collate the names of those wishing to attend ASAP so I can get an idea of space required. I have advertised the show in Miscellany so that we have a really big Morgan representation; maybe even a few Aero’s! NAMES TO DG ASAP Please I really do need to know who is coming.

4.             Trip to Classic Le-Mans – I have been asked by some of those attending the CLM, to arrange a meeting of as many as possible to discuss the event and trip there and back. I proposal is to meet for a pub lunch at ‘The Highwayman’ on the A417 north of Cirencester, and two possible dates – Monday 30th June or Thursday 3rd July, we shall have to have the ‘Majority Rules’ system. Please let me know by return so that I can announce a date ASAP, thanks.

5.             June BSLC – We (most of us!) thoroughly enjoyed the Meeting organised by Jack & Jennifer. We met up at their lovely home for coffee and biscuits before driving to the ‘Butchers Arm’ at Clearwell for lunch. When we arrived the Press were there to photograph all the cars in the car park, there were lots of photos taken and everyone joined in. What a meal! Whilst Lottie had half a cow! everyone else was struggling to finish their meals, not all succeeded! It really was the Meal of all Meals and very fairly priced. We then had a very interesting tour of the Clearwell Caves led by the co-owner. It was very educational and fascinating, much better than walking around by yourselves. If you have visited the caves before, you really should as they are unique. It was then a cup of tea and a piece of cake (how was anyone still hungry?!) before setting off home. Many thanks to Jack & Jennifer for a most enjoyable and interesting day out.

5.             Spotmog Grand Gymkhana – Well eventually the day came around, just! as a week earlier the fields were flooded. I am told that Jeremy was out there for days with many buckets trying to get the field into a suitable condition for us, well whatever he did, it worked and we were able to progress, there were a few ‘cow pats’ here and there for one to walk in, but we accepted that. In the end we had a reasonable turnout, we almost cancelled due to poor numbers (pre-booking that is), please book for events nice and early! The Gymkhana was great fun and everyone joined in with the right spirit. Some photos should be able to be accessed on the Spotmog Website (they are X – Rated!!!). Well, unless you were there you would not have witnessed the cross-dressing (what in Spotmog? Yes!), it was great fun, well thought out and most enjoyable. The Overall Winners were Graeme and Maureen, well done you did really

well and showed the rest of us how it should be done (however there was no blindfold event this year!). Many thanks to Jeremy & Elpie for organising everything and allowing us to use their house and estate for what was a most successful event.

6.             MOG 2008 – Cornwall - This turned out to be an excellent event, there was an overall turn out of some 650+ cars. It was a very good site and it was well organised with lots going on and believe it or not, the weather (apart from a little rain) was superb (I know I managed to get burnt just on one day alone!). There were very few Spotmoggers in attendance but, those that were there, thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Colin & Audrey did well in the Concours; the results will be in Miscellany. For those who can remember Mike & June Pitt, well they were there and still have the Morgan, they are both now retired and I am working on them to come and join us again.

7.             The scheduled trip to ‘Stanway Fountain’ on Saturday 19th July has been postponed as the Fountain is only operative during week days and not weekends. We will see if this trip can be fitted in at some other suitable date.

8.             Centre Car Badge The new car badges have arrived, Graeme has some and DG has some. They are very attractive, slightly different from the previous ones and of a different (and better) manufacture. If you would like one, or two (one for the car and one for above the fire place!) please order it with Graeme Logan (01285 770768) or DG (01793 813484) (who will have them at Noggins etc).

They are already selling well, there are many badge collectors within the MSCC who have already purchased them, so do not be left out, order yours now! If we have to order any more, they will be dearer than the current ones.

9.             MMC Centenary – Prescott Weekend 2009 – Sat/Sun 25th/26th July  I shall keep reminding you all of this date as we all need to be on duty that weekend. We have the responsibility of making sure the weekend goes smoothly, that means we will need lots of man/women power. We will have to work in shifts and there will be many areas for us to cover. At the end of the day, time and man/women power permitting we have been promised that we will be allowed to ‘Drive the Hill’, as long as not too many previous drivers have ‘gone off’! Please put these dates in your diary or whatever you use to tell you what is going on in your life. Also, the following weekend at Cheltenham Racecourse is the ‘Big One’ for want of a better word ‘MOG 09’. It is being organised commercially by a professional Event Organising Company and it appears that it will be open to absolutely anyone, as long as they are prepared to pay, but will it be as good as ‘MOG 2001’?

10.            Spotmog Annual Dinner 2009 Will take place over the weekend of Friday 9th to Sunday 11th January 2009. It will be held at ‘The Bear of Rodborough’ and the rates will be the same as this year for Bed & Breakfast. It is hoped that as many members as possible will make the effort to stay on the Friday night as well, this should make the weekend more complete and even more enjoyable, more time to talk to everyone, not just a few people as seems to happen when you have a one night stay. Further details will be published shortly. Put the dates in your diary – NOW.

11.            Spotmog visits France 2008 – A Meeting for those going to France has been arranged. Thursday 31st July at John & Christine’s house start 4.30pm, and then we will proceed to the July Noggin & BBQ at ‘The Greyhound’. Have all those members intending to take part in this trip booked paid Malcolm Wood the Ferry cheques? Whilst places are limited, there may possibly be a place available still, check with Malcolm, he can be contacted on: 01902 - 753548.

12.            Morgans at Lulworth Castle – 6th July – All Morgans including drivers and passengers are invited to a Rally at Lulworth Castle. Lulworth Castle, East Lulworth, Wareham, Dorset, BH20 5QS, look it up and see for yourself.

Entry is FREE (normally £8 per person!), there is exclusive parking for Morgan Cars only, the brand new Aero 8 demonstrator will be there!, bring a picnic, no BBQ’s allowed, if you have your own Petanque, bring them to have a game with, a Silver Band will be playing during the afternoon. Check with the organisers first before you go – see Miscellany.

13.            Spotmog Website – Do YOU ever look at the Spotmog website, if you don’t, perhaps you should, and you will be surprised to see what is on it. Our Webmaster (Neil) puts his own time into providing YOU with information that you will perhaps need to plan you

Morgan Calendar, so look it up without delay, look at – www.spotmog.org.uk please remember to acknowledge the fact that you have received this edition of the ‘News Extra’.

Should you discover the hidden deliberate errors in this ‘News Extra’, please let DG know when you acknowledge this News Extra.

 ‘NEWS EXTRA’

Evening Noggin – Tuesday 27th May

This is a very important Evening Noggin

I repeat the above; this is a very important Evening Noggin, why? Well the Chairman of the MSCC and his wife are going to be visiting us on this very evening, not only will it be a pleasure to have them with us, but also for

the Centre Members who do not know them or have not met them before, to meet them. Peter and Ann Johnson are from Harrogate , North Yorkshire and whilst he is the Chairman, Ann is the Child Protection Officer for the MSCC, and in today’s political environment, this is a very important position, perhaps not so in Spotmog (although it might still be needed for a few members!!!!), they have already been to a number of other Centre events (mostly Noggins), and it would no doubt be prudent of Spotmog to put on a good show for their visit.

I ask all members to please make a real effort to attend the Evening Noggin on the 27th May, just remember that ‘The Greyhound’ serves up some super food, and there will no doubt be some excellent company in attendance, perhaps a good chance to catch up with friends that you have not seen for a while.

Please if you are going to make that special effort to come along on the 27th, could you please indicate that you have both received this email safely, and that you will be attending (and eating) as I can then give Jason (the Landlord) some indication of how many he can expect to be eating.

You can enjoy the evening, have something tasty cooked FOR YOU, there is no need to do any washing up after either! PLEASE make an effort to attend, there are no black marks for coming in a tin top or having your hood up, it really does not matter, what we would like to see, is YOU. Remember that Members start arriving from about 6.30 pm onwards, if you want to come earlier then do, you can always order your meal nice and early.

Now on with the rest of the News etc.

1.             Brown Shoe Lunch Club Meeting – Thursday 5th June – This year’s BSLC meeting is in the lovely Forest of Dean and includes unmissable visit to the famous Clearwell Caves and it’s Iron and Minerals Mining Museum . This experience is totally different from that of a coal mine. It has been worked since prehistoric times up to the present day. You will need walking shoes and our Guide will take us on an easy underground walk in the footsteps of our forbearers, lasting about an hour. The entrance fee is £5.50, or £5.00 concession rate.

The plan is to meet at Jack & Jennifer’s house (Bridge House) Blaisdon, Glos, GL17 0AH at 11.30 onwards for coffee, then at 1230 we will leave to travel to through the Forest (Of Dean) to Clearwell, where we will park up at ‘The Butchers Arms’, this Inn is noted for it’s good food and has a wide menu to suit every taste and pocket. At about 1430, we will travel the half mile to the Caves. We can expect our underground tour to be completed at about 1600.

There is plenty of parking at ‘The Butchers Arms’ and at the Caves.

Whilst perhaps not everyone will not want to go underground, please feel free to participate in only those parts of the day you wish.

If you need a map to get to Bridge House please speak to Jack or Jennifer.

Please contact Jack or Jennifer on 01452 - 830737 as soon as possible to ensure that the organisers know the numbers to book for lunch etc.

2.             MOG 2008 – I would be interested to know who and how many of the membership are going to be at MOG 2008, especially on the Sunday. It would be nice if we could all meet up at about 1230 for a picnic lunch somewhere, please let me know. Also if you are still in need of accommodation try the ‘Kenton Hotel’ via the website www.hotelsinnewquay.co.uk  there may well be still some rooms available and they are very close to the MOG site. PS. Nobody has yet informed me that they are going to MOG 08! Is anyone going?

Now on with the rest of the News etc.

1.             Spotmog Treasure Hunt & Dinner – Sunday 11th May – This promises to be a really enjoyable event, with the excitement of the Treasure Hunt and then on to a very nice Cotswold pub for an evening meal. A bit different to our normal events, so we need numbers for it to be a success and also for the planning of it. It takes a lot of time and effort to put a Treasure Hunt together, plus we have to get a Permit (more cost to Spotmog!). At the moment we do not have many takers, so please get yourselves organised, and give John or Christine a ring on: 01242 - 602689 and let them know you will be there. We cannot run events without you the members confirming with the respective organisers as I have already said, much time and effort goes into organising these events and without them there is no point of having a Club such as ‘Spotmog’!!!!!!!!!!  Say no more.

Now on with the News etc.

2.             Spotmog Treasure Hunt & DinnerSunday 11th MayThis promises to be a really enjoyable event, with the excitement of the Treasure Hunt and then on to a very nice Cotswold pub for an evening meal.

4.             Wroughton Classic Show 3rd August - It is intended to have a ‘Spotmog’ Stand at this show. We want to have the best possible representation as possible. An invitation has gone to ‘Oxmog’ and they have accepted. It is an excellent show, and very large too, it is not just cars, there will be plenty to see, and it is well worth attending. I need to start collating names of those wishing to attend ASAP so I can get an idea of space required. I may well advertise the show in Miscellany so that we have a really big Morgan representation; maybe we will make room for a few Aero’s! NAMES TO DG ASAP Please.

6.             Spotmog Annual Dinner 2009 Will take place over the weekend of Friday 9th to Sunday 11th January 2009 .

7.             Spotmog visits France 2008 – Have all those members intending to take part in this trip booked with Malcolm Wood, places are limited and if you have not yet booked then it is suggested to check ASAP. Malcolm can be contacted on: 01902 – 753548.

8. If anyone is interested in seeing how Kevin, Zoe and family are getting on in the USA , go to their excellent website blog – www.kzcheale.blogspot.com , it is very interesting, lots of pictures and yes, he recently visited the Morgan Factory!!! Go see for yourself.

9.             Centre Membership Have you paid your Annual Membership Subscription for 2008? Forgotten/Not sure? Well why not contact DG before he contacts you! There are a couple of non payers, perhaps they are not rejoining.

Hope you are looking forward to the next current heat wave! Please report any errors when you acknowledge this News Extra.

Regards

DG.

PPPPS. Wales for the Grand Slam on Saturday, do not ring before Monday!!!

NEWS EXTRA

Evening Noggin – Tuesday 26th February

Here we are again, a New Year and a new season of Morganeering!

It will be upon us sooner than you expect, but it is ‘Evening Noggin’ time. Why not come along and tell us all about your New Year, what nice, useful little things that you had for the car! And of course have something tasty cooked FOR YOU?  It would be nice to see any members that we have not seen for a while. So, please make an effort to attend, there are no black marks for coming in a tin top or having your hood up, it really does not matter, what we would like to see, is YOU. Members start arriving from about 7 pm onwards, if you want to come earlier then do, you can always order your meal nice and early.

Now on with the News etc.

1.             Spotmog Lunch and ‘Grand Quiz’ – Sunday 17th February at ‘The Greyhound’ Siddington. We have held this Quiz for a number of years and it has become increasingly popular each year with more members attending. We are once again at The Greyhound where we will have a very good and wholesome Carvery Lunch followed by the Quiz. David and Linda always put in a great deal of thought and work to make it really challenging and entertaining, so why not come on down and have a bite to eat and take part in the Quiz. If you are unable to make the meal, just come for the Quiz and have some fun. Please let Dave Gibbon (01793 813484 or email) know ASAP as he has to book the meals and get an idea of how many will be attending.

2.             Brown Shoe Lunch Club Meet – Wednesday 20th February at ‘The Bolingbroke Arms’, Hook, near Wootton Basset. If you have not booked and would like to attend, please give Ann/Richard Philps a ring (01285-657781) ASAP to see if there is still room.

3.             Brown Shoe Lunch Club – March I mentioned in error at the Annual Dinner that there was no BSLC Meet in February, well there is of course (see above). But what I have not managed to secure yet, is someone to run one in March (unless I omitted them from the programme by mistake, if so please let me know), is there any one out there who would be prepared to organise a BSLC, please let me know as soon s possible if you can.

4.             Centre Car Badge  It is hoped that the new car badges will be with us during the second half of February. They are actually in production as I write this report. An example was produced at the January Noggin, and whilst the colours were slightly different, all those attending agreed to have the new badge in those colours. If you would like one, or two (one for the car and one for above the fire place!) please order it with Graeme Logan (01285 770768) so he can send it to you as soon as he gets them and before they are all sold (there are many badge collectors within the MSCC who have already contacted me and ordered one, so do it now!).

6.             The Spotmog Cornish Weekend - Spring 2009  We attempted to hold a Cornish Weekend this year, but there were many factors that unfortunately made it impossible. The intention now is that we hold a weekend in Cornwall next spring (2009) somewhere around the end of April/beginning of May (we are still working on it). We want the right weekend and there are a number of factors to be taken into account. However, what we do need to know is who is interested? We will then have a better idea of how many, which hotel to go for and to be in a better bargaining position. Please contact Amanda Smith (01752 846020) asap and let her know that you would like to take part in the weekend, remember that we cannot take the whole of Spotmog, so first come, first served, Final applications will close on Friday 29th February 2008.

5.             ‘Pork & Beef’ - Easter Lunch’ - Sunday 30th March – This Lunch will now be held at Cranham but not however in the Village Hall as previously arranged. A full programme for the day has been published. If you have not booked already, it may be too late! If you wish to chance your luck give Martin Kay a ring on 01452 – 812618.

10.          Are you frustrated by being told to ring various telephone numbers such as 0870, 0845? Well they will cost you a packet, what you need to do if you have not already, is to go on the web and look up a site called SAYNOTO0870.COM and you will be nicely surprised at what you find.

DG.
